First Informations

How does the Vienna Children's University work?

At the Vienna Children’s University you can attend workshops, seminars or lectures. You choose the events that interest you from the online program and book them. In this way, you put together your own study plan. You will not be supervised between the courses.

Where does the Vienna Children's University take place?

The Vienna Children’s University takes place at various locations in Vienna and the surrounding area. You can find out more about the Universities, the University of Applied Sciences and their main locations under Info and Dates.

Is there full-day care at the Vienna Children's University?

No. At Vienna Children’s University you will only be looked after during the courses. There is no childcare before, after and between the courses. If you are not allowed to go alone, your parents must come with you or send another adult with you.

I'm only 6 years old. Can I attend courses at the Vienna Children's University?

The Vienna Children’s University is for children between the ages of 7 and 12. If you are younger, you must have attended first grade elementary school/ Volksschule to participate. (The preschool/ Vorschule doesn’t count.) We are very strict about this rule!

How much does participation in the Vienna Children's University cost?

Participation is free for all children.

The Vienna Children’s University thrives on the support of many partners: The participating universities provide organisational support and the necessary rooms. Many university lecturers teach at the KinderuniWien during semester breaks, many students volunteer. A list of cooperations can be found here.

We are especially happy about donations that will enable us to continue this diversified program.

What types of courses are there? What is the difference?

There are 3 different types of courses:

  • Lectures: Listen to the exciting talks of the university teachers in the large lecture hall. Maybe you can ask them a question or two.
  • Seminars: Discuss or experiment in a medium-sized group on a topic and bring in your own ideas.
  • Workshops: Work intensively on a topic in a small group.

Booking and Program

Where can I find the program?

You can find the online program at https://kinderuni-anmeldung.at.
It contains all details about the courses. Use the search filter and the bookmark function.

Is there a break program without registration this year? Is there a parent program or activities for younger siblings? Find out on the info page Booking and Program.

The program will be published around the beginning of June. Do you want to be informed when the program will be published? Then subscribe to the Kinderuni-Newsletter.

How do registration and booking work?

Book directly in the online program for courses: https://kinderuni-anmeldung.at

And it works like this:

  1. As soon as the program is available, you can register there. You have to enter your personal data such as first name, last name and date of birth. Browse through the program, use the search filter and the bookmark function. Please read the booking rules.
  2. Book courses in the booking period. Please only book those courses that you will actually attend.

In this way, each child creates his or her own program. You do not have to select one university, but you can choose from the entire range that is offered.
Please note: You cannot register for a whole day, but only for individual courses.

What is a main location? What is an excursion?

Each participating university and university of applied sciences has a main location where almost all courses take place. At each main location there is an InfoPoint. Some courses do not take place at the main locations, but at other locations such as institutes, museums, the Botanical Garden or Vienna Airport. These are called “excursions”. You will find the meeting point in the online program and on your student ID card.

Responsible handling of bookings

We ask you to handle your bookings responsibly!
If your seat remains empty even though other children would have liked to take part, this is a great pity.

If it becomes apparent that you will not be able to attend certain courses after all, please cancel your booking as early as possible. The earlier you cancel, the sooner another child can take your seat.
During the booking phase, you can change your bookings online with the help of an adult. Please remember to confirm the booking afterwards (nächster Buchungsschritt → Buchung abschließen) in order to ensure that the reserved places are booked definitively.

Pick-up Phase

What's the Pick-Up Phase?

In the Pick-Up Phase you will pick up your student ID card. So you don’t have to queue up at the InfoPoint for long during the Children’s University Vienna and you don’t miss any courses. You can find all information about the Pick-Up Phase in the chapter Pick-Up Phase.

Why do I have to pick up my student ID card? Who can collect it?

You need your student ID card to attend courses!
The card shows which courses you have booked, just like an admission ticket. It also shows your parents’ telephone number in case we need to contact them. Please collect your student ID card during the Pick-Up Phase or send someone round to collect it for you.

Whether it’s your dad, neighbour, grandpa or your best friend’s mum, who is also coming to the Vienna Children’s University, it is important that the person collecting it shows your ID.

Why do I have to bring an ID card to pick up my Vienna Children's University student ID card? Which identity card is valid?

Please take an ID with your date of birth with you when you pick up your Vienna Children’s University student ID! This way we can make sure that all data is correct from the beginning and does not have to be changed later.

Your identity card must include your name and date of birth. You can simply bring your school ID or other ID with your name and date of birth on it. It does not have to be an official photo ID.

If someone else does the registration for you, just give them your ID, a copy or a (mobile phone) photo of your ID.

During your visit at VCU

When should I be where?

Please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start of your course.
You can find the starting time of your course on your student ID card. You will also find the address and the exact meeting point there.

Where's the InfoPoint? When is the InfoPoint opened?

At each main location you will find an InfoPoint. The InfoPoint is always open when courses take place at this main location.

What can I do between courses?

Take a break in between! Visit the break program (without childcare).

Can I get something to eat at the Vienna Children's University?

Please take your own snack. Summer is hot. Please remember to take enough to drink with you!
