Pick up your student ID and T-Shirt at the Pick-up Day and celebrate the 20th anniversary of Vienna Children’s University! Take your family and friends with you, an exciting program and a colourful anniversary celebration await you and everyone who accompanies you!

Program Pick-Up and Anniversary Celebration

  • 3-6 pm: Pick-up of VCU student ID and T-Shirts
  • 3-6 pm: exciting side program with science and games stations
  • 3:30 pm: Family lecture with Katherine Sarikakis
  • 4:00-6:00 pm: Buskers – Workshop street art and giant soap bubbles
  • 4:00-6:00 pm: Drum workshop with Raymond Walker
  • 5:00 pm: Family lecture with Michael Moser & Maiia Moser
  • 6:15 pm: Official opening
  • 6:30 pm: Drumming workshop with Raymond Walker and EsRap
  • 7:00 pm: Concert by the hip hop duo EsRap
  • 7:45 pm: End

Family lectures

In order to experience university as a family, family lectures are offered on Pick-Up Day.
You do not need to register for the family lectures!

Family Lecture at 3:30 pm

Katherine Sarikakis: “Can Tik Tok save European democracy?”
What do children think about information and news? What kind and form should, can news take to make the world a better place? This course by communication scientist Katherine Sarikakis looks at news, young people and democracy in Europe through the voices of children in Vienna who took part in a study on news and the world.

Family Lecture at 5:00 pm

Michael Moser, Maiia Moser: “Finding a common language – znajty spil’nu movu”.
As a Slavicist, Michael Moser will tell how he learned German and how he learned Ukrainian, and he will give advice on how to make friends even if you don’t yet speak a language perfectly.

Vienna Children’s University Graffiti: Join in!

Create a cool graffiti together with professional sprayer Colin Linde from Oxymoron for the 20th anniversary of VCU! Participation per workshop for 8-10 children: First come, first spray! Please bring clothes that can get dirty. Children under 10 can only participate with an accompanying adult.
Workshop times: 3:30-4:30 p.m., 4:30-5:30 p.m., 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Stop by the facultas book table from 3 to 6 pm, browse through new books and find cool summer reads!


A1 Media Education Stations

Visit our three cool media education stations from 3 to 6 pm!

  • Animal Vibrobots – Making
    Creative digital design is becoming more and more important. This is where your technical skills and creativity are called for: make your own little animal out of wire, luster clips, cable ties, a battery and a motor and let it whiz through the park with the help of a vibration motor. Life of its own guaranteed!
  • Programming language
    Mobile phones, laptops or calculators – it’s hard to imagine everyday life without computers. At this station, you can find out how humans and computers can communicate with the help of an artificial programming language. You will learn to write a simple computer program and program instructions for a cup tower!
  • 3-D Hologram Projector
    Have you ever seen pictures floating in space? In this station, we will show you how to project objects from your mobile phone into the air using simple tools. Fun factor guaranteed!

Recycling Economy with AGR/ARA

Come by between 3 to 6 p.m. and learn more about the recycling economy!

Food and drink

In courtyard 2 there will be the opportunity to buy snacks, drinks, coffee and ice cream from Eskimo! Every Eskimo ice cream comes with a surprise gift!

The VCU Anniversary Box

This year’s 20th Vienna Children’s University has a special surprise for all students: the VCU Anniversary Box with 20 varied research cards from different scientific fields, colourfully designed and ideal for research at home or in the park! You will receive your anniversary box on the collection day on July 9.

Pick up your VCU student ID and T-shirt

Please bring an ID with your date of birth when you pick up your VCU student ID! This way we can ensure that all information is correct from the beginning and does not need to be changed later. You can simply bring your pupil’s card (“Schülerausweis”) or other ID with your name and date of birth. If someone else is doing the registration for you, just give them your ID, a copy or a (cell phone) photo of your ID. You can choose the right T-shirt size on the spot.

You can’t come to Pick-up Day?

Of course you can send someone else to pick up your student ID and T-shirt on Pick-up Day.

Only if you don’t have a chance to pick up, you will get your student ID and T-shirt at one of the InfoPoints at the main locations on your first day at Vienna Children’s University.
ATTENTION: There may be longer waiting times at the InfoPoints during the Vienna Children’s University!
